Bus Behaviour
As a school community we have up to fifteen buses servicing our students each day to and from home. Every day I am inundated with issues regarding student behaviour which is placing other students, bus drivers and other road users at risk. Our role at school is to support student behaviour and the bus contractors, it is not our core business!
During the week, the Passenger Conduct Code for Bus Services will be emailed to all families.
This code outlines:
- Standards of Student Behaviour
- Parents and Carers Roles and Responsibilities
- Bus Operators Roles and Responsibilities
With so many students travelling on bus transport there is a huge responsibility to ensure that they all arrive home safely. I trust that parents and carers sit and have an informed conversation with their children about this critical issue.
The 2024 School Satisfaction Surveys
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you completed our online survey about Exeter Primary School. Your feedback is very important to help us inform our school-planning and decision-making.
The survey is open from Monday 26 August 2024 until Friday 20 September 2024 and should take about 5 minutes to complete.
Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
The survey is carried out on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential. The link to the survey has been emailed to families this week by classroom teachers. Please contact your child’s teacher if you have not received this.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected. A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff.
Please contact your school if you require any assistance.
Attendance
Part of our approach to supporting families with attendance, as a school we have used DECYP guidelines to refine our processes procedures to support student attendance, particularly those students who are frequently away from school.
In the coming weeks parents and families will receive communication from the school explaining their responsibility and expectations to communicate why their child is absent from school, this will require parents and carers providing doctors certificates for explained and non-explained absences when students are absent for five days or more.
Make sure your child goes to school every day. Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow and connect with their mates and teachers. It’s where bright futures start and where they will benefit the most.
Get them excited for school
If you show a positive attitude and excitement towards school, your child will pick up on that. The most common thing we hear from students, of all ages, is that school is where they can: » spend time with their friends and teachers » create new and fun experiences » find their interests » learn new things » open up their options – for whatever future they want (whether that’s their dream job or to travel around the world). Share these positives with your child.
Talk to your child about school
Open up a conversation with your child about what’s happening at school. It will help you to better support their interests and confidence in learning. If you show an interest in school, they will know that getting an education is important and valued.
Celebrate the milestones big and small!
Celebrate milestones such as making it through the first day or week of school. And remember: all milestones look different. If it is a big achievement for your child, it’s important to recognise it.
Set up a time to talk to your child’s teacher or principal
If you are struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We will support you, in whatever way we can.

Book Week 2024 - Reading is Magic!
Book Week 2024- Reading is Magic!
What an amazing sight our school was last Thursday as many amazing book characters and creatures arrived for Book Week dress-up day. Groups of classes met in the PAC for joyous and entertaining costume parades hosted by the Reading Leaders. Over the past 2 weeks, classes have enjoyed reading and voting for this year’s nominated books during library visits and class time. Book Week celebrations have been another fabulous opportunity to foster a love of literature.

Bedtime Stories 2024
What an amazing sight it was to see so many families (especially dads) come along to enjoy the special night this week. It was so wonderful to see our students enjoying books with their families. We had some stories from our special staff readers, and the milo drinks warmed up a tummy or two. The free take-home books were the most exciting part of the night. We hope that students enjoy sharing these gifted books with their families.
Wellbeing for Learning Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
Attention: Parents and Carers of students in Years 4-6
Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Years 4-6 will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: Monday 2nd September – Friday 6th September
Who: All students in Years 4-6
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information will be sent home with all Year 4-6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact Ray Young.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
From September 2nd our school will be asking students to wear their hats during recess and lunch for the remainder of the school year. Please encourage your child to make sure they have their hat. If they don't have their hats, they will be asked to play in the shade.
Fissure Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Program (FSFVP)
Oral Health Services will be running the Fissure Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Program in our school for Kindergarten Prep, Grades 1, 2 and 6 students.
Registration Packs will be sent home this week, once completed by Parent/Guardian, please return to the School Office before Friday 13th September.
The program will run from October 15 until October 29th.
