Parent Teacher Conversations
Thank you to the families who attended our Parent Teacher Conversations last week. The timing to have these at the beginning of term broke away from the traditional end of the term meetings, when the weather is colder, we are all tired due to the demands of 2nd term as we head into the depths of winter. More importantly it has allowed us as a school community to connect with families to gain further insights into our students and to establish future learning focuses for the remainder of the year. If after the conversations, there are some unanswered questions or further information required around your child’s progress, we invite you to make a follow up appointment with class teachers.
Cross Country
How lucky we were to experience ideal weather for our Cross Country Carnival last week. It was an outstanding event; the commitment, excitement, dedication, and joy experienced by all students (and dare I say parents as they watched their child run!) from Kinder to Grade 6 was a pleasure to watch. I would like to thank Mr Habel for his organisation and Mr Chesshire for his curating of the course.
The Australian Curriculum - Have a say in what your child learns.
All students from Prep to Year 10 in Tasmanian schools are taught the Australian Curriculum.
The Curriculum is currently being reviewed and refined to ensure that it continues to be world class and best meet the needs of our students in our changing world.
Families and school community members are invited to contribute to the review. This is an important opportunity and we encourage you to visit the website and have your say in what your child learns.
The website is open from 29 April – 8 July.

NAPLAN Testing (Grade 3 and Grade 5 Students)
NAPLAN is an annual assessment for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. It tests the types of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life. The tests cover skills in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.
NAPLAN is a nationwide measure through which parents, teachers, schools, education authorities, governments and the broader community can determine whether or not young Australians are developing the literacy and numeracy skills that provide the critical foundation for other learning and for their productive and rewarding participation in the community.
NAPLAN tests are one aspect of each school’s assessment and reporting process, they do not replace the extensive, ongoing assessments made by teachers about each student’s performance. Your child’s teacher will have the best insight into your child’s educational progress.
This week students have begun testing the domains outlined. Prior to this week, students have been well supported by engaging in practices tests to make them familiar with the process, format, and requirements of each test.
It has been beneficial to interact with students before and after test sessions to see how they are coping with the demands of the sessions, I am extremely happy with the positive manner in which students are approaching this week and the growth mindset they have in doing their best.

At Exeter Primary School, we are trying to change the way that we manage waste. We have begun recycling soft plastics from our recess and lunch packaging. Students have been busy making posters and planning what steps that we can take to make Exeter a great place both now and in the future.
Thanks to a wonderful suggestion from Chloe in 3/4 Gee we have now joined the Wonder challenge. This challenge will connect our efforts at school with our community. We need you to help us collect clean, empty bread bags and plastic bread tags.
