2022 Parent Communication
Thank you for those families who took the time to complete our survey about parent / teacher communication for 2022. We value the ability to communicate with families regarding their child's progress. Additionally, we know that families are busy and at time routines change particularly the end of day pick up or illness. We appreciate there are several ways in which we communicate with each other daily, from a school perspective we need to ensure that all communication methods are timely and accurate, in the past it was through a daily communication book, email has overtaken this form in past 12 -18 months. It has been decided that the following way of communication will occur for 2022:
- School Communication Books will be available for all Kinder students.
- Families wishing to communicate using Communication Books can purchase these during the book sales times.
- Families will need to speak to their child’s teacher at the beginning of 2022 regarding the form of communication that best suits their needs. Potential teacher absence will need to be considered.
We ask families to be mindful that if there are any last-minute changes to daily pick ups or bus transfers that this is communicated through our office administration team, the end of the day is busy for teaching staff and they cannot guarantee that messages will be received by students during this time.
The Department of Education are looking at safe and secure platforms to help facilitate our communication with our stakeholders. More information will be provided into the future.
Cyberbullying
During the past couple of weeks there have been a few Cyberbullying issues that have occurred outside of school hours and have impacted on student learning. Whilst we can support students to navigate this space, responsibility for students accessing social media platforms, it is the responsibility of parents / carers to monitor their children’s use. Platforms students are accessing have a recommended age limit attached to them for a guide to parents, many of them providing guidance for students over the age of 13 years.
In the past I have provided the following information to support families with controlling and monitoring the use of technology in homes.
- Help them to keep a record of the bullying in case it needs to be reported
- Reporting serious cases of cyberbullying to the Police - cyber stalking, which is repeated harassment usually containing threatening messages with the aim to intimidate and create fear, is a crime and should always be reported
- Help your child to “call out” the bullying behaviour
- Encourage them to use statements like “You are going too far – this is bullying, and I want you to stop”
- Suggest your child ‘block’ or remove people bullying them from their friend list and change their username or mobile number
- Help them file a complaint with the website manager
- Help them spend some time away from the computer and mobile phone by increasing their options for doing other fun activities
- Follow up after your child tries a solution to see how it went
- Check out the eSafetywebsite for more information on cyberbullying and access to their reporting and complaints system

Squid Game – Netflix
Currently we are experiencing some concerning behaviours, interactions and games from our students as a result of the Netflix show, Squid Game. Whilst I have not personally watched this I am aware that the subject matter is not rated suitable for primary aged students. We ask parents / carers to monitor the content that their child may be exposed to, so that we can provide a safe learning and play environment.
Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to all students who participated in the swimming carnival last week. I was very proud of the number of students who entered multiple events. The atmosphere and sportsmanship were outstanding. Thank you to Mr Habel, staff and parents who contributed to such a successful event.
Kind Regards,
Recently we held our volunteer morning tea to thank the wonderful people that have helped in our school this year.
We appreciate the time they give to our students.
Thanks again!
Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) 2022
Student Assistance Scheme (STAS) 2022 letters have been sent to all families who were approved for STAS in 2021 advising them if they have been approved or not approved.
If a family wishes to add a new student to their existing STAS file they simply need to email their name, and the full name, date of birth, and grade of the student in 2022 via email to stas@education.tas.gov.au and we will add them to their existing file.
Alternatively, they can return the approval letter they have received which has the facility to provide the details of a newly enrolling student and can be returned.
Note: STAS 2022 approval letters only need to be returned to Financial Services if the parent/guardian is adding a new student to their file
Families applying for STAS for the first time can apply online at the STAS website or complete a hard copy form.

EPS Swimming Carnival
Congratulations to Brady on taking out the Exeter Swimming Carnival last Friday. Batman and Dalrymple tried their best but Brady were too good and completed a clean sweep of carnivals for 2021 and their first swimming carnival since 2016. Final scores were Brady (578), Dalrymple (524) and Batman (522). Well done to all the students on their participation, encouragement, leadership and behaviour on the day which ensured a smooth carnival. I would also like to thank the Grade 10 High School students, parents and staff for their assistance with supervision and officiating.
Thanks to the parents who entered a team in the teacher, parent, student relay which provided a bit of fun. For the second year in a row the teachers were beaten, this time by a classy Grade 6 girls team.
The standard of swimming in the 25m pool was extremely high which enabled me to select a strong team that represented the school at the TPSSA Carnival at George Town yesterday.
In Division 1 events outstanding performances were from:
Grade 3: Zoe, Ivy, Misha, Mitchell
Grade 4: Chloe, Ellie, Emmerson, Oscar, Xavier, Tom
Grade 5: Annie, Cammi, Addison, Thomas, Noah, Lewis
Grade 6: Neve, Stella, Grace, Jarrad, Jacob, Solomon
Thank you to all who attended and contributed to the Carnival.

Thank you to Mrs Gee for her management of the team and all the students for your excellent behaviour and efforts on the day.
