Welcome back to Term 2, we hope you enjoyed your break!
We have lots in store for this term, including Cross Country, Swimming and Water Safety Program, Parent Teacher Discussions and NAIDOC Week.
By showing up to school every day, your child will have the best opportunity at a bright future. It gives them every chance to be around friends, learn new things, and find interests.
Good attendance habits can sometimes be hard to stick. Keep trying to create a solid routine, to set your child up for success for the rest of the year.
If you’re looking for tips on how to create better attendance habits, visit the Anything can happen website.
Please always talk to us if you’re having trouble getting your child to school. We’re here to help.
Share your thoughts on school attendance
Help us better understand any barriers that may be in the way, and what supports are needed to help with getting to school.
The Department for Education, Children and Young People are doing statewide consultations on school attendance. 3P Advisory is independently running the consultation. Your answers are confidential, and you won’t be identified.
We want to hear from you. You can take part in an online survey, share or vote for suggestions, or join an online drop-in session via the 3P website. The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete.
You can also share your thoughts about what you like or don’t like about our Every school day matters campaign.
As a parent or carer, please have your say. Please encourage your child/ren, too.
Every piece of feedback counts. Thanks for helping shape future DECYP initiatives, school-based engagement strategies and public awareness campaigns.
ANZAC Day
It was wonderful to be part of the Exeter Community ANZAC Day service again this year. To reflect on how lucky we are to live in such a country with young children through to our senior citizens is something we all should embrace and be proud of.
The spirit of our service men and women who have served and continue to serve in conflicts throughout the world can be transferred into our school setting. As a school and department, we are learning about and embracing the values below and applying them to our teaching and learning:
Connection – Building positive relationships and a sense of belonging.
Courage – Accepting challenges and embracing opportunities.
Growth – Aspiring to learn and improving, even when it is tough.
Respect – Caring for ourselves, each other and our environment.
Responsibility – Stepping up and doing what is right.
With a positive Growth Mindset, we can achieve anything.

The Reading Leaders are currently running a reading in nature photo challenge. Students are challenged to find the most interesting place they can read in nature and have a photo taken. Photos need to be emailed to Mrs Smith at ellen.smith@decyp.tas.gov.au The challenge runs until Monday 27 May. All students from Prep to Grade 6 are encouraged to participate to keep up the habit of reading. Winners from each grade will be announced in the week 5 whole school assembly and will receive a book prize.
Firstly, on Wednesday in week 4 our whole school will once again get together in the PAC to participate in National Simultaneous Storytime. Last year was the most successful year with the highest number of schools, libraries and Childcare Centres participating.
The author of the book is Aura Parker. She is an award-winning illustrator, writer and designer. Her picture books are joyful with a playful sense of humour, brimming with details to explore. Aura Parker’s storytelling though words and pictures inspires imagination, courage and confidence in young readers as well as a love, curiosity and passion for nature.
“I am a collector. Always looking, finding ... and keeping! Bowerbird loves BLUE. Magnificent cobalt. Brilliant, vibrant BLUE! But something is missing. What could it be?”
This picture book stars a beautiful bowerbird on the search for BLUE! It’s a moving story of longing and connection, that unfolds as the bowerbird’s search sends him soaring across the sea, sky and city. He swoops and snatches vibrant treasures for his collection, and soon his bower—a mix of natural and unnatural objects—attracts something greater and more fulfilling than he could ever have imagined.
National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an important annual campaign that aims to encourage young children to read and enjoy books as well as teach them the value of literacy. We can’t wait to share this event with you!
Next we would like to announce that this week’s winner of the Book Recomendation prize is Erik.
Finally, a reminder to everyone to keep up with your home reading. If you’re not reading regularly, then you haven’t found the right book yet!
Talk to Mrs Clark or your class teacher to get some ideas for this.

In our Wellbeing lessons, classes have been doing a lot of work around recognising emotions and brain breaks.
Students have been exploring ways to regulate our emotions and take time to calm ourselves before moving on to the next activity.
Breathing techniques have been proven to reduce anxiety and regulate children who are not ready to learn.
Try this at home with your child and see how it goes.
