Every school day matters
There are lots of things you can do to set your child up for success:
Make sure your child goes to school, every day
Going to school every day gives your child every chance to learn and grow, and connect with their mates and teachers. It’s where bright futures start and where they’ll benefit the most.
Get them excited for school
If you show a positive attitude and excitement towards school, your child will pick up on that. The most common thing we hear from students, of all ages, is that school is where they can: » spend time with their friends and teachers » create new and fun experiences » find their interests » learn new things » open up their options – for whatever future they want (whether that’s their dream job or to travel around the world). Share these positives with your child.
Talk to your child about school
Open up a conversation with your child about what’s happening at school. It will help you to better support their interests and confidence in learning. If you show an interest in school, they’ll know that getting an education is important and valued.
Celebrate the milestones
Big and small! Celebrate milestones such as making it through the first day or week of school. And remember: all milestones look different. If it’s a big achievement for your child, it’s important to recognise it.
Set up a time to talk to your child’s teacher or principal
If you’re struggling to get your child to school, help is available. Please talk to us at school about your situation. We’ll support you, in whatever way we can.
Know when to seek help
There is no weakness in admitting you need help. If your child has completely disengaged with school, and not attending at all, there is support to help you. In the first instance, talk to us at school. For more helpful tips, please check out the Anything can happen website.
With Attendance being a priority for the Department for Children and Young People, we have been reviewing our attendance processes at Exeter Primary. This includes more communication from the school to try and support you with potential attendance issues or to request a doctor’s certificate or statutory declaration for multiple absences.
Going to school every day gives children every chance to learn and grow, and connect with their mates and teachers.
Parent/Teacher Discussions
These will take place on:
Thursday 13th June until 7pm
Tuesday 18th June until 5pm

Swimming and Water Safety Program
The Grades 3-5 SWSP finishes today with an increased number of our students improving their skills and confidence in the water. Feedback from the swimming teachers has been exceptional regarding the way our students have engaged in the program and the respect they have shown. A huge thank you to our staff for their ongoing support and encouragement of the students in their care.
Safeguarding Children and Young People
Respectful Relationships Education ensures that all Tasmanian communities value a culture of respect. We have formalised a sequence of lessons for Health and Physical Education to teach age- appropriate content to our students about challenging stereotypes and addressing attitudes and beliefs about gender and power that perpetuate family violence and abuse.
Class teachers will be supporting our school nurse, Annette Whitemore to facilitate these lessons, and help educate our students about Respectful Relationships.
Please contact the school if you have any questions.

In 3 / 4 Duncan we have been looking at the change of season from Autumn to Winter. We looked at and have drawn the features of leaves including some from the Plane trees in Beaconsfield. These trees were planted over 200 years ago between 1902 and 1918 to commemorate the locals who served in the South African war and the 1st AIF.
“WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT BUTTERFLIES BUT WE CAN FLY IN THE SAME GARDEN”
These butterflies were coloured in by the Kinder to grade 2 children. Over 3 weeks we talked about how our bodies all look different, but we are all the same in so many ways. We looked at ways to be proud of what our bodies do for us.
Orders can be brought to the school office, if ordering with cash by Tuesday 18 June. Please place orders in an envelope with the student's name and class on the front. Orders can also be placed online using the Book Club Loop App.
Nature Reading Challenge
The Reading Leaders are currently running a reading in nature photo challenge. Students are challenged to find the most interesting place they can read in nature and have a photo taken. Photos need to be emailed to Mrs Smith at ellen.smith@decyp.tas.gov.au The challenge has been extended until next Monday 10 June. All students from Prep to Grade 6 are encouraged to participate to keep up the habit of reading. Winners from each grade will be announced in next week’s whole school assembly and will receive a book prize.
