I would like to wish everyone an enjoyable and restful holiday period. Term two has been a busy and challenging one, with lots of activities, events and illness spread throughout.
The term has provided our students with a variety of learning experiences across the curriculum:
- Swimming and Water Safety Program
- Cross Country
- Excursions
- Readers Cup
- Sports Activities
During the past couple of weeks we have engaged with families with Parent/Teacher discussions. I would like to thank families for their commitment to these. Lots of time and planning are put into these to ensure that we are communicating student growth and planning what is next in future learning endeavours for students. They are a valuable means of communication and working in partnership to support student learning. As a follow up, Mid–Year Reports will be sent home, Friday, July 5.
Attendance
As has been promoted throughout the year, school attendance is a major priority and focus for the Department for Education, Children and Young People. As a school we have been working beside families to help support any barriers there may be preventing children from attending. Next term we will share some refinements in the way we will continue to support attendance processes and communication at a school level.
Schools work closely with parents to support a child’s attendance at school to maximise their learning. They can provide options for continued learning where illness is resulting in absences. In some circumstances, the compulsory conciliation process may be used to help resolve issues that are causing a child not to attend school. For more information, see the Information for Parents on compulsory conciliation on the Office of the Education Registrar’s website.
Canteen Changes
Due to a number of contributing factors next term will see some changes to the operation of our school canteen. These will be as the following:
Monday – No Canteen available
Tuesday – Cold lunches only
Wednesday – Friday – Normal menu available
Farewell
As a school community we would like to acknowledge over 25 years of service and contribution of Michael Jones to Exeter Primary School. Michael finishes up his time with us as a fulltime cleaner to pursue other opportunities. We may see him in the future in a relief capacity. We wish Michael all the best for his future endeavours.
Respectful Relationships Education
PARENT SESSION: Respectful Relationships Education
Thursday 8th August, 4.45-5.45pm at school. Location TBC
Teaching about respectful relationships and consent helps change the way people think and act. When people treat others fairly and with respect it is less likely for violence and abuse to occur.
The Department for Children and Young People (DECYP)is adopting a whole-of-system approach to respectful relationships and consent education. We aim to stop problems before they begin by using what the research tells us works best.
Schools have been provided with a range of materials to support the teaching and learning in this area with input from children, young people, and experts. The resources help schools and communities understand why violence and abuse happen and show ways we can help to stop it.
The goal of Respectful Relationships Education is to create positive environments where everyone is treated with respect.
Our School Nurse, Annette Whitemore, is leading the sessions on Respectful Relationships with our students, with the support of the class teachers. These sessions align to the Health and Physical Education curriculum. Nurse Nettie has an extensive history working in this area and we are very fortunate to have her expertise.
In Term 3, we will be running parent information sessions regarding Respectful Relationships; where it fits within the curriculum, the key content areas covered and the research to validate the education.
Light refreshments provided.

We have a lot of lost property in the basket currently, including lunch boxes, drink bottles and many warm jumpers and jackets.
If your child is missing something please check the lost property basket before the end of Term.
The basket can be found outside of the Administration Office.
During Term 2, students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people worked together to create an artwork to show their connections to Country and the importance of sharing the stories of First Nations People. Come and see their spectacular piece in the school foyer.
Untold Stories to Truth-Telling
Whether the stories were stolen, hidden, ignored or never spoken, we cannot change the past. However, now more than ever we commit to ‘Keep the Fire Burning’ and uncover, collect, expose and share our stories. Stories of truth, Our truth, which we will share throughout our Tasmanian family.
