This year Exeter Primary School is participating in the Bullying No Way: National week of action, 12 to 16 August 2024.
Bullying No Way Week is a commitment being made by thousands of schools and supporters across the country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bullying prevention. It gives us an opportunity to connect with students, staff, and school communities to implement workable solutions to prevent bullying.
The new hero colour for the campaign is purple – symbolising peace, strength, and empowerment to take a stand against bullying behaviour.
The theme for this year's campaign is Everyone belongs. This theme highlights the importance of creating a sense of belonging and inclusion for students. We recognise bullying often thrives in environments where individuals feel marginalised or excluded, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that every student feels valued and respected.
“Positive school climates that value diversity and inclusion can foster a sense of belonging and provide a protective factor against negative peer relationships and reduce bullying.” (Australian Education Research Organisation 2023).
For more information about Bullying No Way Week and bullying prevention, visit the Bullying No Way website.
During the week we will be engaging students in meaningful discussions and activities aimed at promoting empathy, understanding, and respect for diversity. We encourage parents and carers to take this opportunity to have open and honest conversations with their children about the impact of bullying and what they can do if they need support. You can visit the Bullying No Way website for tips around how to have this discussion.
If you have concerns that your child is being bullied, please contact your child’s teacher in the first instance.
If you believe the behaviour constitutes a crime, or is a serious incident of cyberbullying, please refer to the Bullying No Way website for information on how to report to other authorities and access wellbeing help.
Canteen Update
Families are reporting a few issue with the Quicker App, when ordering lunches at the canteen. We have discovered in some cases the students class profile has not been changed to the correct class when parents / carers are ordering, in some cases the App. has defaulted to the first class in which the order was made in, e.g., previous grade level. Additionally check your phone settings to ensure updates are available.
The canteen provides a range of healthy food options catering for a range of dietary requirements to support students ordering lunches.
Our canteen is a Gold Accredited member of the School Food Matters, SmartFood Program.
Birthday and Celebration Food
As a result of COVID, bringing of food items to school to share as part of celebrations and birthdays has been restricted. All food must be commercial cooked and packaged. We understand the importance of celebrations and we would like to trial the following option for families for the remainder of the term as an alternative.
- The canteen will make Fruit Kebabs for members of the classroom as an alternate to cake or chocolates.
- Fruit Kebabs will have seasonal fruit and a marshmallow
- Contact the canteen one (1) week prior to the birthday to place your order
- Fruit Kebabs will cost $1.00 per class member, payable at the canteen
- Fruit Kebabs will be delivered to the classroom prior to recess on the day

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
The wellbeing of our students is important to us - we want to hear how students feel, and think, about different things going on in their lives.
Those in Grades 4-6 will be taking part in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. The results from this survey will help us get a picture of the current wellbeing of our students, and what we can do to improve future wellbeing for learning. The more students who take part, the clearer our picture will be.
The Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy .
The details for the survey are:
When: Monday 2nd and Tuesday 3rd September
Who: Grade 4-6 students
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Grade 4-6 students, including Frequently Asked Questions and a form to sign and return to the school if you do not want your child to participate in the survey.
If you would like further information, please contact Ray Young on 6394 4700.
Thank you for supporting us to ensure that all our learners are safe, feel supported and are able to flourish, so they can engage in learning.
Respectful Relationships Education
Respectful Relationships Education is a key part of the Health and Physical Education curriculum. The updated version has been “Strengthened the explicit teaching of consent and respectful relationships from Foundation (Prep) to Grade 10 in age-appropriate ways, including content that addresses the role of gender, power, coercion and disrespect in abusive or violent relationships.”
Lessons about the content are resourced from a department created and endorsed book with explicit opportunities for developmentally appropriate learning about consent education, gender stereotypes and roles, keeping safe, respectful relationships and who to ask for help if your safety is threatened.

Why Respectful Relationships Education is important for your family
Schools are where children learn how to interact with others and work together in a respectful way. Schools model respectful relationships and can help students to understand that no one should be disrespected or abused.
Respectful Relationships Education supports families and communities to ensure students understand how to interact positively with others and to develop respectful relationships as they grow and become adults themselves.
As parents, and as influencers of young people, we want the best for our children and young people. We want them to experience healthy and positive relationships, to respect others and themselves and have opportunities to learn.
From a young age, boys and girls start to believe there are reasons and situations that make disrespectful behaviour acceptable. It is seemingly innocent remarks to young people that can often be misinterpreted as condoning or excusing disrespectful or violent behaviour.
The Bring Up Respect campaign, a joint Australian, state and territory government initiative, aims to help families and communities to build respectful relationships.
We do our best to set a good example, but sometimes, without meaning to, we might say things that excuse disrespectful behaviour in young people.
It’s important we understand the cycle of violence. Not all disrespect towards women results in violence. But all violence against women starts with disrespectful behaviour.

The Department for Children and Young People (DECYP) have made Attendance a priority for all schools in Tasmania.
Consistent attendance at school is critical to achieving positive educational outcomes and keeping students engaged in their learning. Research indicates that missing school can have negative impacts on students' emotional and behavioural well-being. They may experience social isolation, decreased motivation to stay in school and lower academic performance.
At Exeter Primary we have recently reviewed and adapted our Attendance processes to align more closely to DECYP expectations. We want to work with families to overcome any concerns or barriers that may be affecting regular school attendance for your child. You may be contacted by staff more often about explained and unexplained absences via phone, email or letter.
More information will be shared about our Attendance processes in the coming weeks.
100 Days of School Celebration
We have been counting to 100 days of school. Our 100th day of Grade 1/2 was Friday 2nd August. We spent the day working on 100 themed activities such as thinking about what we would be like when we were 100 years old, starting to track 100 acts of kindness, writing about what we have achieved in the past 100 days and creating a drawing using the digits from the number 100.
Book Week 2024 - Reading is Magic!
A reminder that Book Week is only 1 week away! Next Thursday 22 August is our Book Week celebration.
