The 2025 School Satisfaction Survey is here!
We want to hear from you, as input from families is especially important to help us inform our school planning and decision-making.
Every year the Department for Education, Children and Young People conducts a School Satisfaction Survey to find out what your child(ren)'s school does well and where it may improve.
We would be grateful if you took part in our online survey about Exeter Primary School.
The survey is open from Monday 25 August 2025 until Friday 19 September 2025 and should take about 5 minutes to complete. Each family should nominate one person to fill in this survey for their child(ren).
Take the online survey by scanning the QR Code or pasting the following link into your browser: https://nam.dcv.ms/vu5DexOkX8 The survey is conducted on a secure website and all responses are anonymous and confidential.
All families in this school received the same survey link and no identifying information is collected.
A summary of the survey results will be provided to schools. Responses from individuals or small groups will NOT be disclosed to any Department for Education, Children and Young People staff. Please contact your school if you require any assistance.
Class Placement 2026
We will soon begin the process of constructing our classes for the 2026 school year. If there is any relevant information that we need to consider regarding your child’s, academic, social, and emotional wellbeing during our process, please email me directly before Wednesday, September 17. zachary.tayor@decyp.tas.gov.au
As a staff we conduct a rigorous process to ensure that there is equity for all classes, requests cannot be guaranteed. Requests of individual teachers will not be considered.
We are presently taking Kindergarten enrolments; we have information sessions planned during Term 4 to support our new families settle into school life.
If your child will not be remaining at Exeter Primary School in 2026, can you please contact the school office as soon as possible.
Staff Farewell
We sadly say goodbye to Mrs Sam Streefland as a Teacher Assistant for the past 18 months. Sam has worked across the school supporting students engage and access their curriculum. During the past 12 months Sam has been in the kindergarten space supporting our young people transition into the school environment. We wish Sam all the best and we will see her in and around the school as a mum.
Sickness and Illness and Medication
There is a huge spike in sickness now, particularly with influenza, we have seen over 60 students away daily along with a number of staff.
We are encouraging everyone to follow the simple advice:
- Do not come to school if unwell – this applies to staff, students, and visitors.
- Keep your hands clean by using soap and water or hand sanitiser.
- Staff, students, and visitors are asked to practise all safe behaviours and follow Public Health advice that is relevant to their personal circumstances.
We appreciate the support of families by keeping their unwell children at home and wish everyone a speedy recovery.
We cannot administer medication of any form unless parent supply the school with the relevant completed Authorisation for Administration of Student Medication Form for the medication. If this does not occur, the school must not administer student medication. Both Authorisation for Student Medication forms (A and B) are available on DECYP’s website or please contact the school office for more information.
In 5/6W we have been doing artwork focusing on how we can use three simple lines to create a visually pleasing picture. Using a continuous line to make a circle, a straight line and squiggly line students were able to create a sun in the background of mountains. Students then used warm and cool pictures to optimise the effect.

Breaking News from Year 5/6 Petrohilos!
Students have been spotted wrangling equivalent fractions with the skill of seasoned pizza chefs. Eyewitnesses say they can now add and subtract fractions faster than you can slice a pie into eighths. The only crime in our classroom? A mismatched denominator! Fortunately, our fraction detectives are on the case, double-checking answers and showing no mercy to mathematical mistakes. Parents, be warned: your children may soon start reducing your cake slices to lowest terms.

Mr Taylor, Mrs Simpson and the office staff have started calling families about explained absences (non-consecutive) of five days or more which aligns with the Department for Education, Children and Young People’s (DECYP) expectations.
As stated previously, if your child is absent for 5 or more days, a Doctor’s Certificate or a Statutory Declaration must be provided for our records. Statutory Declarations are available at the Office.
Thanks for your cooperation.
Book Week 2025- Book an Adventure!
What an amazing sight our school was last Tuesday and Thursday as many amazing book characters and creatures arrived at school for Book Week dress-up days. Groups of classes met in the PAC for joyous and entertaining costume parades hosted by the Reading Leaders. Over the past 2 weeks, classes have enjoyed reading and voting for this year’s nominated books during library visits and class time. Book Week celebrations have been another fabulous opportunity to foster a love of literature. A big thank you to families for supporting children with costumes.

Supporting Every Student’s Literacy Journey: Our Approach
At our school, we’re committed to making sure every child and young person receives the literacy support they need—when they need it. That’s why we use a consistent, evidence-based approach across all Department schools called the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).
Here’s how MTSS works:
- Tier 1 – For all students: Every child is taught to read using proven, evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Tier 2 – For some students: Those who need extra time and practice with specific literacy skills work in smaller groups. Once they’ve mastered the skill, they return to Tier 1.
- Tier 3 – For a few students: These learners receive one-on-one support to help them learn specific literacy skills, alongside the learning in Tiers 1.
This system ensures that every student gets the right amount of help at the right time. Whether it’s extra practice or individual support, MTSS is our way of making sure no student is left behind in their literacy journey.
If you have any questions or would like to learn more about how your child’s learning is supported, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher.
Orders can be brought to the school office, if ordering with cash by 9th September. Please place orders in an envelope with the student's name and class on the front. Orders can also be placed online using the Book Club Loop App.
