School Uniform and Dress Code
Exeter Primary School follows a school dress code and uniform policy that has been developed by the school and School Association to be inclusive and support a proud and positive school community.
Student dress codes and uniforms have a number of important functions, including to:
- Promote a shared sense of school identity helping your child feel like they belong in their school
- Ensure your child is dressed in appropriate protective and sun safe clothing for school activities
- Assist school staff and the community to easily identify school students outside of school grounds
- Encourage students to take pride in their appearance and be prepared for workplace expectations
- Strengthen the profile and identity of the school and its students within the broader community.
School uniform and dress codes are slightly different in their definitions:
- Uniform is a distinct set of clothing, which may include a school emblem and colour scheme.
- Dress code is a set of requirements on how students present themselves when attending or representing their school. As well as specifying clothing, a dress code may include personal presentation and appearance.
Currently we are seeing many students in our classes not following our dress code requirements. In particular, we are seeing a large number of students wearing makeup, both lightly and full-face makeup. These dress code requirements also include and extend to makeup and beauty embellishments such as fake nails and eyelash extensions.
Can you please ensure your child is adhering to the Exeter Primary Uniform and Dress Code Policy. Please make contact with your child’s classroom teacher if you are unable to facilitate our policy and we can support your family moving forward.

3/4 Duncan Exeter Show Entries
Last month 3 /4 Duncan entered some decorated painted plates into the Exeter show. This resulted in Bonnie winning first prize and Jacinta second prize. The plate designs were created individually by the students, and they looked amazing. Currently, they are on display in the main hallway near the school office.

Over the course of the year, Exeter Primary will be developing a policy for engaging with families. Currently, the Department for Education, Children and Young People (DECYP) is updating their ‘Together with Families’ resources. These resources will support the school in implementing an approach to engage more parents/families in student learning.
The Australian Research for Alliance for Children and Youth (ARACY) define parent and family engagement in learning as “the capacity of families, in partnership with schools, to support student learning and achievement by promoting interactions with children and young people that nurture positive attitudes towards learning, confidence as learners, and the development of subjective learning resources’.
Fifty years of research tells us that parent engagement in children’s learning makes a difference. When parents engage with their children’s learning, particularly out of school, attendance increases, behaviour in school improves and overall children’s achievement tends to improve.
Parent and family engagement in learning is based on an understanding that while children learn in all kinds of different environments, at the centre of these interrelated systems is the dynamic between parents and children. Child-parent interactions that nurture positive attitudes towards learning resources, equip children to succeed.
More information will be shared as we progress through this process.
Reconciliation Action Plan at Exeter Primary

A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal commitment to reconciliation. It documents how the school or early learning service will strengthen relationships, respect and opportunities in the classroom, around the school/service and with the community.
RAP Working Groups are usually members of an educational community who are willing to drive the RAP development/implementation journey.
A diverse RAP Working Group will ensure the responsibility for developing, implementing and maintaining the RAP does not sit with one person, or be the responsibility of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives. A collaborative approach will ensure the RAP incorporates diverse perspectives, and represents the diversity of our educational community in empowering and sustainable ways.
The RAP Working Group should include:
- Members of the local Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community (build relationships with community prior to asking community members to contribute to reconciliation activities in your school or early learning service).
• The Principal/Director (who will ensure executive-level support, and will need to approve the RAP via the Narragunnawali platform).
• Teachers and educators.
• Parents/carers and wider family and community representatives.
If you are a parent/carer and/or wider family and community representative, please contact the school office if you are interested in becoming an active member of our RAP.
Language Learning for Aboriginal students
palawa kani Tasmania Aboriginal language is taught to Aboriginal children of all ages through TAC programs; parents of Aboriginal children at Exeter Primary School could contact the Launceston TAC office for support and learning resources.
