Principal's Report
Hello everyone,
Welcome back! We have had a busy start to the school term and are looking forward to many interesting and challenging learning opportunities as the term progresses.
We had a wonderful finish to Term 3 which saw us all enjoy dancing in the sunshine as part of our biennial Dance Event. It was lovely to see so many families come along to watch our children dance and enjoy the day. Our last day assembly was also a special treat with a guest appearance from Matthew Garwood, star of the musical Buddy and former contestant of the popular television show, The Voice. Matthew was joined by Victoria Geale and Tim Gamble. The three vocalist wowed us with their singing and Matthew Garwood inspired us with his words of wisdom about the importance of having life goals and working hard to achieve them.










Goal Setting
Over the past week we have been focusing on the importance of setting personal learning goals and how to put strategies in place to meet them. Students watched the following Youtube clip on Goal Setting and then committed to setting their own personal learning goal. If not completed in class students will bring home their goal card to complete. I am looking forward to reading the goals and seeing the different strategies they will employ to reach their goals. Please take the time to talk with your child about the value of setting goals. You may wish to work with them to set a goal that could be worked on at home. Goals should be achievable with a reasonable time frame so remember to keep the goal within reach of attainment. For example if the goal is in relation to reading it may be, 'I will improve my reading stamina by reading for 5 minutes every day'.
Class Construction for 2017
It is that time of year when we begin our planning for class construction for the coming school year. As you would appreciate this is a complex and time consuming process and teachers spend a great deal of time and care to construct classes that will be both socially and educationally productive. Teachers take into consideration a range of elements and endeavour to construct well-balanced groups of students. It is also important for us to take into consideration any information that parents have that may impact on student class placement. If you would like to pass on any information that will help us in the class placement process please do so in writing, to the school office or via email to alison.brooks@education.tas.gov.au before Friday November 4. Information received after that date may not be considered.
Country Gold Carnival
Congratulations to all our students who participated in the annual Country Gold Carnival during Term 3. A number of our students were selected for the try outs for Football, Netball, Soccer and Hockey. Some students were successful in being selected to represent the Tamar region in their chosen sport. Overall, Exeter Primary had 12 students in the representative teams which is a fantastic effort. Well done to all those who participated and represented both our school and the greater Tamar region so well.
Halloween Social
After the success of last year's Halloween Social the Student Leadership Team has decided to run it again this year on Thursday November 3 in the PAC. The K-2 social will run from 4.30 until 6.00 and the 3-6 Social from 6.00 – 7.30. Fancy dress is encouraged. Entry cost is $2.00 and includes a fruit supper and water. Last year's social was a great success so we hope to see all our students there this year.
Reminder – Friday October 21 is a Teacher Professional Learning Day. No students attend. |

LIFT BAGS
The Education Department's LIFT Project Officers have been busy creating exciting new resources for families of children in our school. These will be coming home with students from Kinder to Grade 2 this week. We would love to receive some photos of our families using these games, books and resources in their homes. We hope you have lots of fun with your literacy and numeracy resources!

Exeter Primary School is pleased to announce Steve Biddulph, one of the world's best known parent educators, is coming to Exeter Primary School to present a community evening on Raising Girls. Please see flyer below for more information on how to secure your ticket to this event.

Respectful School
Last Term we introduced The Zones of Regulation program to our student population. We will be trialling, this program in most classes during Term 4 and introducing it as a whole school in 2017.
Just to remind you the Zones are:
At the end of Term 3 our school met to discuss the Yellow Zone, which is the zone where students can start to lose control of their emotions due to being excited, worried or frustrated. Students were given a task to take home and we were amazed at the number of students who completed the task and brought it back to school. We are hoping there will be many purposeful discussions at home regarding the introduction of The Zones of Regulation and ask you to contact your class teacher if you require any further information.

Our Learning Community Sport
Country Gold Report
The Country Gold Carnival was held on September 15 and 16. With sports of football, hockey, netball and soccer being played in Launceston with 6 northern regional associations participating. Exeter had 12 students involved across the 4 sports representing Tamar.
In soccer Ellie Beadle and Jenna Griffiths were in the girls team that finished 3rd, unlucky not to make the final after drawing round robin matches against the finalists.
In hockey, Lauchlan Ryan's Tamar team finished 4th enjoying a couple of wins in round robin matches.
The netball saw Jasmine Russell help win the Division 2 Final for Tamar while Will Radford was a member of the Division 1 team that finished third.
In football, Exeter had 7 representatives in the Tamar team-Will Jones, Jaiden Betts, Jed Squires, Liam Older, Dylan Grutzner, Josh Beams and Daniel Jordan. The team won 4 of 5 round robin matches losing only by a point to the unbeaten Northern Midlands West. Playing against them in the final they once again went down, this time by 21 points. Liam Older was named Player of the Tournament and alongside Jaiden Betts and William Jones made the All Stars Team.

Country Gold Cricket Trials
Congratulations to Liam Older, Ryan Geale, Joshua Beams and Daniel Jordan who last Friday were selected in a team of 10 to represent the Tamar Association in next month's Country Gold Cricket Carnival played against 5 other regional associations at Riverside.
Parents
Hats for Term 4
Term 4 will see Exeter Primary getting back into wearing hats – being Sunsafe – for all outside activiites. Most student have been wearing hats since the start of term and we thank them for their efforts. If a student still has not located their hat a new one can be purchased from the school office or the Uniform Shop which is open on Tuesdays from 8-30 am until 10.00 am or Thursdays from 2-30 pm until 3-30 pm. Hats cost $10.00.
Book Club Issue 7
The seventh issue of book club has been sent home. If you would like to place an order, please put your child's and teacher's name on the front of an envelope, place the order sheet and money inside the envelope and bring to the school office by

Education Bill 2016
The Education Bill 2016 was tabled in Parliament on 21 September 2016. This is an important piece of legislation as it will determine the framework for the way in which education is provided into the future.

What's Happening in Our Classrooms?





School Association
Ladies Night-Out Fundraiser
Our ladies night out was a smashing success. The Parents & Friends committee are extremely happy to announce we surpassed all expectations and raised over $5000.00.
I personally would like to say Thank You to Liz Jordan and Amanda McEvoy for co-ordinating the event.
The list of parent helpers is endless and I would like to say a collective THANK YOU to you all. It is amazing to see how many parents value their children's education; knowing all the money we raised will go back into our school.
I would like to acknowledge and thank our wonderful office staff and Facility Attendants for your help with preparing for the night. We couldn't have done it without you!
We also greatly appreciate the time and skill that Amy Jory and the Grade 6 students: Gemma Shaw, Elise Young, Caitlyn Gumley, Jasmine Russell and Ella Greenhalf put into making the origami dresses and butterflies that adorned the PAC foyer. Also, thank you to the Grade 5 students that gave up their lunchtime to help put them up.

Community News
Cricket
Boys and Girls must be age 9 to 12, training on Wednesdays at Exeter Show grounds, from 4pm to 6pm.
Twilight Games played Friday evenings about half are home games at Exeter showground.

DISCOVER SAILING DAY
Sunday October 23rd 2016
Discover Sailing Day provides you with an opportunity to try sailing for FREE!
Clubs on the Tamar River will devote their club boats and instructors to give people of all ages with little or no expertise a chance to experience the joys of sailing. You will be given the opportunity to try your hand at various boats under the instruction of sailing club members. You can simply turn up on the day at the participating club of your choice but bookings would be appreciated. A parent or guardian must accompany children under the age of 18. LEAD, INSPIRE, GROW
Applications are now open for West Tamar Council's youth leadership program – Lead, Inspire, Grow. The program is held over 3 days in the summer holidays at Camp Clayton, Ulverstone from January 9th – 11th.
The camp features games, challenges and guests speakers and is designed to build leadership skills. The camp is open to all West Tamar residents aged 12-16 and free to successful applicants.
