Dance Fever

Wow! What a fabulous few weeks we have had with so many wonderful things happening for our students. Last Friday some of our 5/6 students performed in Dance Fever 2017 and did an outstanding job. These students have been working on the dances every week over the last 2 Terms and their dedication certainly payed off. I would like to acknowledge Launceston College for inviting us to participate in this program and Lucy Woodland, the Launceston College Tutor, who has worked with our students each week. All our students from Grade 3-6 travelled to the Door of Hope to see the performance on Friday and were inspired to be part of this program in the future. A big thank you to Mrs Sims for supporting our students.

Esk Band Extravaganza

The previous Friday our Esk Band students participated in the Esk Band Extravanza at the Albert Hall. This was a fabulous event showcasing a range of talent and commitment from our students. As always our students were exceptionally well behaved and it was a pleasure to spend the evening with them. Many thanks to Mrs Emms for her support of the band and attendance at the concert. Again I would like to acknowledge Launceston College for making this excellent program available to us.

The Arts at Exeter

Thank you to everyone who attended our Arts Afternoon and Art Gallery and Arts Trail Opening on Wednesday 22 November. The concert displayed a wide range of art experiences, including, dance, music and instrumental performances and I believe our Gallery is the best yet! It showcases some orginal and high quality pieces of art. This year our students worked with Sonja Hindrum, a local artist, as part of the West Tamar Art Group project and produced some wonderful self-portraits in a range of mediums. Our Gallery features, photography from our Photography Options program, sculptures, felt work, 3D installations as well as creative painting and drawings. If you haven’t been in to see it yet it is well worth a look.

ReMade

Congratulations to our small, but very talented group of students who particpated in REMADE as part of Interweave at the Annexe Theatre at Inveresk. Mrs Sims has been working with a group of students to design and make costumes entirely from recycled clothing and materials. The culmination of their work was seen on the red carpet on Saturday when they modelled their costumes to a packed theatre. Well done to these students and a big Thank You to Mrs Sims.

NAPLAN Awards 2017

Congratulation to Aidan Woods for being recogised for excellent results in NAPLAN 2017. Aidan received a Certificate of Excellence from the Minister of Education at a special presentation afternoon. We are very proud of Aidan and his dedication to his school work and continual growth mindset.

Triathlon

Last Wednesay we had a team of about 30 students participate in the annual All Schools Triathlon in Devonport. By all accounts this was a great day, with all our students demonstrating determination, persistence and good sportsmanship. Congratulations to all those students who participated and a big thank to Mr Habel and all the parents who supported their children to participate.

Tasmanian Science Talent Search

Last Sunday Mr Clark and and a group of student participants attended the annaul Science Talent Search Presentation Day at UTAS. Exeter Primary has enjoyed the challenge of particpation in this event for many years and we were very pleased to be awarded the The Ian Pattie Award for the greatest commitment to Technology through the Tasmanian Science Talent Search 2017. Well done to everyone who participated this year as this is a great honour for our school.

Orientation Day

On Wednesday 29 November our Grade 6 students attended Exeter High School for their Orientation day. Students were given the opportunity to try a typical high school day and find out about the different subjects on offer. The feedback from our students was extremely positive and they are really looking forward to starting High School in 2018. Mr Frerk, the Principal of Exeter High School said our students represented our school extremely well and interacted with a postive attitude throughout the day.

End of Year Reporting

End of Year Reports will be sent home on Monday 18 December. The End of Year Report is a summative report which shows assessment ratings for English, Mathematics, Science and HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences). The report also includes a general comment giving an overall assessment of your child’s year and highlights any points for future consideration. With the report you will also receive information about your child’s class placement for 2018. Please be assured that this placement has been made after due consideration and with the best interests of your child in mind. I would like to thank all the families who made valuable contributions to this process.

School Accounts

As the school office is busy finalising end of year accounts it would be appreciated if families could pay any outstanding fees before the end of the year. We are always happy to discuss a payment plan, so contact the office to arrange if payment is an issue. We are currently updating our Fees and Levies Policy in line with the recommendations of the new Education Act and this will be published in our final newsletter of the year.

Schools Triathlon 2017

Congratulations to the Exeter students who faced hot conditions last Thursday when competing in the Primary Schools Triathlon Challenge at the Devonport Bluff. Exeter had 23 students representing the school with 3 entering individual events. With close to 100 entrants in each race, Jack Porteus finished near the top 10, in the Grade 3 Boys while in Grade 5 events, Chloe White finished 4th and Fergus Simpson finished in the top half of the field. All our students did a tremendous job in the team events.

A special thank you to Sheryl Turner and Bec and Niall Simpson for their support and organisation on the day and to all the parents who travelled and supported the team.

Country Gold Cricket Challenge

The Tamar team won 2 and lost 2 of its matches during the Country Gold Cricket Carnival held last Monday and Tuesday at Riverside with each team playing 4 games over the 2 days. Exeter had 5 representatives with Daniel Jordan, Urban Farquhar, Lachlan Berwick, Xavier House and Harry Templar. All Exeter boys contributed well throughout the carnival with the bat and ball while Lachlan Berwick did the majority of the wicket keeping. The team improved in all facets over the 2 days while dealing with fatigue caused by extremely hot temperatures. Playing against 5 other northern regional teams, each match is 30 overs per team or 90 mins an innings.

Vegies for Exeter Show

Whether you like vegetables or not, now there is a new incentive to start growing your own. It is the season to put in pumpkin, carrots, potatoes, marrow and so much more, ready to harvest for the Exeter Show on Saturday 24th February. There are prizes for the heaviest, biggest or most unusually shaped vegetable and the good news is, you get to eat the rest of them! So start planting. You don’t need a lot of room just a sunny bit of the garden, a patio or even a polystyrene box, just remember to water and check that the odd snail has not taken a fancy to your seedlings.

If growing vegetables really is not your thing (and anyone can grow them!) then there are other categories that you can enter – art, craft, cooking, flower arrangements and lots more.

For any further details please contact Hilary Keeley on 6394 4725/ 0438 944 725 or pick up an entry form from Exeter True Value Hardware in Exeter closer to the time of the Show.
