From the Principal
Thank you to all the families who supported our Welcome Barbecue last Tuesday evening. It was a great night and a good opportunity for parents and teachers to catch up. It was lovely to see some of our new families there as well. The feedback about our new barbecue area was really positive and it provided a lovely space for everyone to come together. I would like to pass on a special thank you to our wonderful Parents and Friends who organised, cooked and cleaned up after the event. Thank you also to the students and parents who helped pack away the barbecues and furniture.
I was pleased to see that many parents took advantage of the opportunity to arrange a meeting with their child’s teacher prior to the barbecue and I would urge all parents to make the effort to catch up with their child’s teacher before the end of this term. I cannot emphasise enough the significance of effective communication between home and school and the importance of families and school working together to ensure academic success. By keeping in close contact with your child’s teacher you are saying to your child that school is important and you value their education. If you haven’t done so already please let your child’s teacher know the best way to contact you.
Student Leadership
Last week all our Grade 6 Students attended the Annual Grip Leadership Conference. The conference provided our students with opportunities to learn about themselves, recognise their strengths and leadership capacity. The conference is very popular with many schools from the Launceston area attending. Students are challenged to think, problem solve and generate new and interesting ideas. Grip Leadership is a great way to kick start the Student Leadership process. After completing the conference students were invited to nominate for one of the many leadership opportunities on offer. This year students will be given the opportunity to apply for a position as: Peer Leader, Zone’s Leader, Sport’s Leader or STEAM Leader. At Exeter Primary School we believe that all students should have the opportunity to be leaders and endeavour to provide a range of leadership opportunities. I would like to thank families who supported their children in writing leadership applications. The Student Leadership Team for 2018 will be announced next week.
Grade 6 Camp and Grade 5 Challenge Day
This week our Grade 6 students head off to Hobart for their annual Hobart and Port Arthur trip and our Grade 5 students visit Camp Clayton for Challenge Day. These events are a significant part of our curriculum and it is important that all students attend. Teachers have spent a great deal of time in organising these events and willingly give their time to ensure that our students continue to have access to an annual trip away. We look forward to hearing about their adventures on their return.
Hawthorn Player Visit
On Friday we are fortunate again to have a visit from the Hawthorn Football Players. Some of our Grade 3/4 students will be working with the players as they use their influence to promote the importance of reading. Their visit is the result of our participation in the 2017 Premier’s Reading Challenge.
National Day Against Bullying
Every Year Exeter Primary School marks the National Day Against Bullying. As a school we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive space for our students, staff and families, not just for one day but every day of the school year. This is reflected in our School Vision statement: To work together to build a connected school community focussed on learning for all in a respectful and supportive environment. This year classes will be designing posters to share the message, “Imagine a World Free From Bullying”. Posters will be displayed in our main corridor from next week so please take the time to come and view them and see the messages from our students.
Best wishes

Parents and Friends
Want to help organise Ladies' Night this year?
Ladies' Night is the Parents and Friends biggest fundraiser of the year. It is on August 24th 2018 in the evening in our school PAC.
We have many market stalls with a welcome drink of wine and an opportunity to win donated prizes from local businesses.
There will be an informal meeting on THURSDAY 22nd MARCH in the school parent room at 2.30pm - small kids welcome!
There are many small jobs and some bigger ones, but we'd love to get as many helping hands as possible to make this year a big success.
If you can spare 20 minutes before school pick up to come along and find out how you could help then we would love to see you there!
