From the Principal
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that we are more than half way through Term 1 and what a busy term is has been. Some of the highlights include the Grade 5 Challenge Day and Grade 6 Hobart Camp. These were both excellent events and provided our senior students authentic learning opportunities. The teachers who accompanied the Grade 5 students to Camp Clayton for Challenge Day were impressed by the level of cooperation the students engaged in to successfully complete team challenges. Hobart Camp again, provided our students with opportunities to learn about Tasmania’s early convict history as well as developing students’ independence and resilience, especially for those students who were embarking on their first stay away from home. I am always proud to hear about comments given by the public, saying how respectful our Exeter Primary School students are. I would like to congratulate our families on raising such wonderfully considerate children.
School Uniform
I would like to remind students and families that the wearing of school uniform is an expectation at Exeter Primary School. Having a school uniform is important in helping to build a sense of unity and presenting a positive public image of Exeter Primary School to our community. The wearing of school uniform is supported by our School Association and our Uniform Shop provides a range of affordable options, including new and quality second-hand items. I ask that you support our school by ensuring your child is wearing their school uniform every day. Please contact us if you require support with this.
NAPLAN Achievement 2017
Earlier this month we received notification from ACARA (The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority) that Exeter Primary had been identified as having made significantly high gains in NAPLAN 2017. This is in relation to our Year 5 2017 Numeracy Results. As a school we focus on continually improving the way we teach with reference to evidenced-based practices. Over the past 3 years we have focused on the development of a whole school approach to the teaching of Numeracy and these results show that we are making progress. This is the second year in a row that we have made significantly high gains in Numeracy. I would like to acknowledge the work that our teachers do in ensuring all students have access to high quality teaching.
Interim Reports
Interim Reports will be sent home on Friday 6 April. This is a progress report and provides information on how your child has settled into the school year and highlights any areas for consideration or future attention. On receiving your child’s report take the time to discuss the progress they have made throughout the term, celebrate the positives and identify any areas where improvements can be made. Learning is not just something that happens at school and it is important that parents and teachers work together to provide children with the best possible opportunities for success. If you have not done so already I urge you to make contact with your child’s class teacher and to discuss your child’s progress at school.
Student Leadership
It is with pride that I congratulate our Students Leadership Teams of 2018. In an attempt to provide leadership opportunities for a greater number of students we have created leadership teams in Sport, STEAM, Zones and Peer mentoring. All successful leaders will have opportunities to demonstrate their leadership skills across the school by helping teachers and other students on a daily basis. I wish them all the best for the year and know they will demonstrate our School Expectations of Being Safe, Being their Best and Caring for the Rest every day. Congratulation to our 2018 Student Leadership Team!
National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence
Last Friday was the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. This day provides an opportunity for us to remember that we all have a responsibility to take action against Bullying and Violence. It is important to remember that Bullying is more than just one event and refers to being mean or hurting someone over and over again and refers to a situation where someone or a group of people have more power and repeatedly use words or actions to hurt someone else. Our students produced posters conveying their messages and these are displayed in our main corridor. Please take the time to read them as they have conveyed some very insightful thoughts.
Best wishes
