From the Principal

Dear families,

Risk Management and Excursions

Recently there have been changes made to the Department of Education’s Major Excursion and Risk Management policies and we have updated our processes and procedures in accordance with these changes. To make sure that we manage risk effectively when undertaking excursions we expect that all students will return to school with their classmates at the end of the excursion. This means that unless you need to pick your child up for an appointment or they are unwell they will return to school with their class and finish the school day as normal. If you do need to pick your child up early for an appointment please contact me before the date and let me know. I thank you for your cooperation with helping to keep our students safe.

Winter Sports Exchange

This week our Winter Sports Exchange begins. All 5/6 students will be participating in the winter sport roster and visiting other schools involved in the competition. To comply with changes to the DoE’s major excursion policy we will be sending home new consent and medical forms that need to be completed for every 5/6 student. Along with the consent and medical form is the Exeter Primary 5/6 Sports Agreement that must be signed by students and their parents. This agreement outlines the expectations and code of conduct for students participating in sporting events, please take the time to review this agreement with your child before signing to ensure they understand what is expected of them.

Volunteers and Visitors in Tasmanian Government Schools

The Education Act 2016, sets out clear expectations for volunteers and visitors in Tasmanian Government Schools and this includes school’s developing a Volunteers and Visitor’s Policy. Exeter Primary School is fortunate to have a large number of valuable parent and community volunteers who generously give their time to support the students and teachers in our school and it is important that volunteers and visitors behave in a way that supports a safe school environment and we are in the process of developing our policy. I have included a link to information that will help you to understand your responsibilities when volunteering in our school, when you require a Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (RWVP) and how to apply. Please take the time to read this through and feel free to contact me if you have any questions about this process. The policy will be shared when it has been ratified by School Association.

Parent Teacher Conversations 2018

Qkr for your online ordering from canteen and uniform shop

Message from Qkr.

As of 6 June some of the older versions of the Qkr app will no longer work, and families will need to update their app. Most people have auto update enabled in their phone settings so this will happen seamlessly for them. If the app has stopped working, you simply have to download the current version from the app store.

For those parents who have older phones you may not be able to upgrade, but check out the website

Support Services

Introducing…

We are pleased to introduce Rebecca Hayes from Integrated Family Support Service (IFSS), a subsidiary of Baptcare. Rebecca will be working from Exeter Primary School on Monday mornings fortnightly, to offer support for families. She is available by appointment and her role is to provide support and resources for families and individuals within the West Tamar community. This is a free service that works to improve the safety, wellbeing and health of children from birth to 18 years and their families. IFSS also assists families with unborn children to obtain support, prior to the birth of a child. Should you wish to access this free support service, please call our school office on 6394 4700 or Rebecca directly on 6323 6700 or 0447 344 235.

Arrow and Flutter

As part of our ongoing commitment to developing student wellbeing, some of our Grade 5/6 students have enjoyed participating in the Arrow and Flutter programs this term. Students have investigated who they are by identifying personality types, individual qualities and what they enjoy and are good at doing through games and practical activities. They have also worked on developing resilience and building strong, positive relationships. Thank you to Michelle and Kylea from Little Bird for their continued support of our Exeter students. If you would like to know more about the Arrow and Flutter programs please contact Helen Peart.

TPSSA Report 2018

Congratulations to our squad of 47 that competed at Beaconsfield last Tuesday. With challenging courses of approximately 2000m (Gr 3/4) and 2400m (Gr 5/6) the students took on the challenge with eagerness and recorded some impressive results.

Running against the other 5 schools in the Tamar Association with up to 6 representatives from each school, Exeter filled 11 of the 32 places for ribbons and had 24 runners in the top 10.

Learning to Read in Prep/1 Simpson

In our classroom we have been working hard at developing our reading skills. Some of the highlights this term have included Simultaneous Storytime, Premier’s Reading Challenge and Buddies Read Together time. Each day we enjoy some great stories, are inspired by the illustrations in books and share our favourite authors and books together.

We hope you enjoy these photos of us on our reading journey.
