From the Principal
Dear families,
Science Week
Last week Exeter Primary School celebrated Science Week in a number of ways. Our Grade 5/6 classes participated in the Exeter High School Science Fair organised by Mr Greg Finnigan. The students participated in a range of experiments with students from Beaconsfield Primary School. Teachers involved in the day reported that all students were a credit to their school and conducted themselves in an exemplary manner. Prep/1 Simpson and Prep Upson visited the Queen Victoria Museum and participated in the Crazy Scientist presentation, visited the Planetarium and had the opportunity to interact with Science Week displays. The Grade 3/4 classes followed up on their recent excursion to a beach environment and the Grade 1/2 classes focussed on the weather, making predictions and learning about how weather affects our daily lives. It was great to see our students engaging in science learning and seeing themselves as Scientists of the future!
Grade 5/6 Options Day
This week our Grade 5/6 classes will be participating in Options Day at Exeter High School. This program is part of the Exeter High School transition program and provides our students with the opportunity to experience a school tour and participate in some of the programs on offer, including Drama, MDT and Food Studies. Visiting Exeter High School and becoming familiar with the school and teachers is an important part of the transition to high school. Primary students often experience a number of concerns about high school so the more familiar they can be with the high school environment the more confident they will be about moving onto high school next year. We are fortunate to have such a high calibre high school available to our students. If you have any concerns about your child moving onto high school or would like to know more about Exeter High School please talk with your child’s teacher.
Ladies Night
Don’t forget Ladies Night is on this Friday evening. As always there are a great line up of vendors, great prizes and lucky balloons. Ladies Night is a great way to kick start your Christmas shopping or just a great night out with the girls. See you there!
Book Week
This week is Book Week and our Kinder to Grade 2 students will celebrate by dressing up as a favourite book character on Thursday. Our Assembly this week will focus on books and reading and next week we will further celebrate reading at our annual Dad’s Story Night. At Exeter Primary School we value books and reading and make the most of every opportunity to celebrate the joy of reading. How will you recognise Book Week in your family?
Together We Inspire Award finalists
Exeter Primary School is very proud to announce that we are a finalist in the Together We Inspire Awards 2018. Our school was nominated for the work we have been doing in the area of student welfare and the Zones of Regulation. I would especially like to acknowledge the work that Helen Peart and Jen Radford have undertaken in this area. It is wonderful to have our school recognised.
Congratulations Chloe W
Congratulations to Chloe W who recently represented Tasmania as a member of the U12 Tasmanian Hockey team that competed against all other states of Australia in Newcastle, New South Wales. The Tasmanian team did a fabulous job and brought home a bronze medal. Well done Chloe we are all very proud of you.
Good Bye
This will be the last newsletter that I write for a while as I have been offered, and have now accepted, a new position as Student Support Leader with Learning Services Northern Region. Helen Peart will assume the role of Acting Principal in the interim and will provide ongoing high level leadership. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as principal of Exeter Primary School and take my leave with a heavy heart. It has been a privilege to be part of the Exeter Primary School community and I take great pride in the school’s growth and development in the time I have been principal. My connection with the school will continue in my new role and I will be continuing to work in the school over the next few weeks to ensure a smooth transition and handover. I am looking forward to the challenge of my new role and anticipate working with Exeter Primary School in a different capacity. Sincere thanks for your support and trust.
Best wishes
Alison

School Satisfaction Surveys
The Department of Education conducts School Satisfaction Surveys each year in all Tasmanian Government schools, to gain feedback on what you think your school does well and where you think it can improve. Participants are selected randomly and will receive the survey to complete on line. All responses are anonymous and your feedback is valuable to us. Thank you for your participation.
