From the Principal
Welcome to Term 2! I hope you have had a restful break and taken the opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends. Term 2 is an important term as we start with our school Cross Country events and NAPLAN in week 3 and then the Swimming and Water Safety Program in week 4. At the end of Term 2 you will receive your child’s major report for the year and have the opportunity for parent teacher conversations. I am looking forward to a great, but very busy term and catching up with many of you at parent teacher conversations.
ANZAC Day
I would like to acknowledge the students and families that supported Exeter Primary to commemorate ANZAC Day. Our choir did an amazing job at the Exeter Community Centre, thank you Mrs Emms. A special thank you to Shannon and Hannah, Isabella, Rachelle and Claire who laid wreaths at the Exeter and Beaconsfield Cenotaphs on behalf of our school. The respect shown by our students is commendable and our families should be very proud of these wonderful young people.
Our student leaders will be conducting our school ANZAC Assembly tomorrow (Thursday) in the PAC at 10.25am. Our school families and community are invited to join us.

NAPLAN 2019
The National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will take place in the week beginning May 14. All students in Year 3 and 5 will participate. As always we take care to ensure that students are comfortable with the testing and teachers have been familiarising students with the testing format. This year all assessments will be held online with the exception of Grade 3 Writing. I have included some extra information in this newsletter for you and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Staffing
It is with a great sense of sadness I advise Mrs Vicki Gee will not be returning to EPS for some time. We all send our condolences to Vicki and her family at the sudden death of her husband Rodney in the last week of term 1. Mr Isaac Klug will be teaching the class for the time being. We also welcome Mr Scott Brown who will be doing some support work at the beginning of the term and transitioning to 1/2 Crawford when Jo Crawford commences her maternity leave at the beginning of week 5. We also welcome Toni Smith, Katie Britton and Paul Ballard to our staff. Thanks also to Louise Scott for the support she has given to EPS students during Term 1 and we wish her all the best with her new adventure.
Exeter’s Got Talent
Congratulations to all the students who participated in Exeter’s Got Talent this year. We appreciate the thought, time and effort all students put into their act and they learnt a lot as they progressed through the audition process. It was a great show and a fabulous way to end the term. There was a great variety of acts and genuine talent to enjoy. Thanks to our family and community members who came to support our students.
Student Wellbeing
During Term 2 we will continue to develop our students’ wellbeing and will be participating in the Dancefever Multisports - Body and Mind Wellbeing program. We will have trained instructors who will run the sessions with teachers supporting their class from Kinder to Grade 6. Each session runs for 40 minutes and involves our students being lead through Mindfulness exercises with their own headsets! Please see the link and video below for more information.
Kind regards
Helen

Woolworth’s Earn & Learn
We are excited to be taking part in the 2019 Woolworths Earn & Learn program.
During the previous campaign, we were able to purchase some great resources with the points we earned, thanks to you.
From 1 May until 25 June 2019, you can collect stickers at Woolworths that go towards Earn & Learn points. For every $10 you spend at Woolworths (excluding the purchase of tobacco, liquor and gift cards), you will receive a sticker. These stickers can then be given to your children to collect on a special sticker sheet which will be sent home this week with each child. Once it is completed, they can simply bring it back here to school or you can drop them into the Exeter Primary School collection box at Woolworths.
The more points we earn, the more we can redeem from a choice of over 10,000 educational resources including numeracy and literacy resources, art & crafts materials and much, much more!
We are grateful for your support and look forward to a successful program. If you have any questions, please ask at the School office.

School Attendance
Missing school on a regular basis contributes not only to poor academic success but also social isolation for many children. Even getting to school late can make a child feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. You can support your child to attend school every day by setting good habits around sleep and preparation for school, as well as reinforcing the importance of school attendance by speaking positively about school and sorting out any issues your child may be having quickly. Please let us know if you are having difficulty with getting your child to school so we can help. If your child is unwell and cannot come to school please contact the school by 9.00 on the day of absence. This can be done by phoning the school office, sending an email or via the Schoolzine app.
Scholastic Bookclub
Orders are due back to the School Office by Tuesday 14 May. Additional order forms are available from the office.

TPSSA Athletics Report 2019
On Monday 8 April a squad of 47 athletes from grades 3-6 travelled to St Leonards Athletic Centre in cool conditions for the TPSSA Athletic Carnival to compete against representatives from Beaconsfield, Lilydale, South George Town, Port Dalrymple and Star or the Sea.
We were impressed with our team’s organisation, behaviour and determination to do their best and support one another. Exeter children were very competitive with most of our team returning with success. Of the 96 events Exeter was first in 48 and second in 24.
A special thank you to Cindy Dunn and Alex Swain for managing the team and all the other parents for supporting on the day.

Mother’s Day Stall
Our annual Mother’s Day Stall will be happening at school on Friday 10 May.
Each child will get the opportunity to come and purchase a gift for their mum, gran or carer. The gifts are almost all hand-made items that are amazingly packaged, with prices ranging from 50c to $10.
If you are able to donate any items to the stall they would be really appreciated.
Gifts including soaps, pens, plants, chocolates and hand-made crafts are always popular.
The stall is one of our School Association’s largest fundraisers of the year, and a small group of talented mums put a lot of their time into making these lovely gifts.
Working Bee
CAN YOU HELP AT A WORKING BEE?
We are holding two 'Working Bee' days to assemble and put together some of the craft items for the stall in the Parent Room at the Prep/Kinder end of the school. These will take place on Wednesday 1 May and Thursday 9 May between 9.00am and 2.30pm. We would love you to come and help us even if only for some of the day.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer. Please contact Donna with any queries at donniembarker@outlook.com.
Uniform Shop
Our Collared Windcheaters have finally arrived. Our supplier had an issue with the delivery of some fabric which contributed to the delay. Orders have been sent to the children's classrooms - thank you for your patience.
Grade 5/6 Winter Sport:
We are now keeping Exeter Primary long sports socks - suitable for football, soccer & hockey.
We have stocks of Size 2-7 (adult) @ $12/pair.
With the cold weather here already, we are stocked up on our warm jumpers and jackets, so come in and see us on Tuesday mornings 8.30-10.00am or Thursday afternoon 2.30-3.30pm for your child's uniform needs.
