From the Principal
Dear families,
Swimming and Water Safety Program
Our Swimming and Water Safety Program is off to a positive start and it has been great to see our students enthusiastically participating. Feedback from the swimming teachers at the Aquatic Centre has been overwhelmingly positive with all students giving their best and endeavouring to be in the water every day. Thank you to our families for continuing to support this program by ensuring students are prepared and ready for swimming.
National Simultaneous Storytime
Thank you to all the parents and family members who came along to support our National Simultaneous Storytime Open Classrooms. Reading is the most important skill that children need to master to succeed at school and in life and we appreciate the value our families place on helping their children to make progress with their reading. Our students were excited to share stories with family members and visitors. Thank you Mrs Emms for organising the event this year and every child in our school received a book via our LIFT Program to take home to read. If you would like to know more about how you can help your child with reading, please talk with your child’s teacher and I have added a link that you may find useful:

University of Tasmania Pre-Service Teachers
This week we welcome Pre-service Teachers from the University of Tasmania. These teachers will be working with us for the remainder of the term. At Exeter Primary we value our partnership with UTAS and understand that by supporting beginning teachers we are giving back to our profession and ensuring that they have the opportunities to grow and learn from experienced teachers. We welcome Amelia Dexter – Kinder Freeman and Sophie Pinnington – 3/4 Wheatley. Please introduce yourself to them if visiting your child’s class.
Celebrations of Success
We are excited and proud to share that Damon has been selected to represent Tasmania in the U12 Boy’s Hockey Team. Damon will be training hard and attending a training camp in Hobart during the school holidays. We wish him all the best for the upcoming School Sports Australian Hockey Championships to be held in Bendigo in August. Well done Damon!

Parent Support Ideas
I often have parents express their frustration at how busy it is getting their children ready for school and how frustrated they become each morning, often arriving at the bus stop or school yard feeling exhausted and worn out! Often a simple check list such as the one below can be enough to give children guidance in how to get themselves organised and ready for school and makes homes quieter and more settled. Feel free to use the checklist below or search the internet for similar ideas. You can even use a check list like this to assist children to get ready for bed or complete their family chores.

Mother’s Day Stall
A very big thank you to everyone who made donations for the Mother's Day stall. We had some really great and generous donations. Thanks also to the people who helped out at the working bees and on the stall. We had a very successful day and raised over $2150.00.
There will be a Father's Day stall in August. It is much more challenging coming up with gift ideas for dads so donations would be greatly appreciated.
Healthy Habits with Nurse Bec
Does your child find it hard to relax into sleep?
This can be a struggle for some kids, even adults, winding down at the end of the day. Try this exercise with them daily, along with a consistent bed time and routine. This mindfulness exercise focusing on muscle relaxation is helpful in allowing our thoughts to wind down just as much as our physical bodies.
