From the Principal
I am pleased to inform you Mr Zachary Taylor has won the permanent Principal position for our school and will commence working with us at the beginning of Term 3.
I would like to thank our families and school community for your support over the last 12 months and look forward to continuing to work with you all at EPS.
Our transition program with Exeter High School began last week with students in grade 5 and 6 listening to a group of grade 7 students sharing their experiences of high school and participating in a student question and answer session.
Congratulations to Sampson, Riley, Holly and Isabella who have had art work selected for the Art Start exhibition Quaint, Quirky and Peculiar! Their art work will be on display at the Queen Victoria Gallery on Wellington Street from today.
Winter Sports Exchange
On Friday 21 June, our Winter Sports Exchange begins. All 5/6 students will be participating in the winter sport roster and visiting other schools involved in the competition. To comply with changes to the DoE’s major excursion policy we have sent home new consent and medical forms that need to be completed for every 5/6 student. Along with the consent and medical form is the Exeter Primary 5/6 Sports Agreement that must be signed by students and their parents. This agreement outlines the expectations and code of conduct for students participating in sporting events. Please take the time to review this agreement with your child before signing to ensure they understand what is expected of them and return the forms to the office to ensure all students are able to participate in the Winter Sports Exchange program.
After School Steam Challenge
Our Friday After School Challenge group has got off to a great start with students highly engaged in a Mindstorm LEGO Challenge called Hydrodynamics. Mr Clark has been very impressed with the way in which these students have taken on the challenges and worked strategically to find solutions. There is a real energy in the room and the students are really excited to be taking part.
Enrichment Program
The Enrichment Program continues to provide students with opportunities to build positive relationships between students and staff in the West Tamar region and supports their transition to high school.
This term, nine students from Grades 5 and 6 have been participating in a Visual Arts Project at Exeter Primary School. So far students have been learning how to work with clay, how to join it and how to create textural effects. Each student has begun the process of designing and creating their own sculpture around the theme of Symbiosis and Struggle. Sculptures must be made mostly of clay and include a second material like plant, wire or light. We look forward to keeping you all updated on this project.
Learning Support
At Exeter Primary School we understand the development of our student’s Social and Emotional learning is as important as the development of their academic learning. We cater for students in a variety of ways and support students’ needs through a range of programs. This term we are supporting the Inside Out for Kids program. We have supported this program for many years and it aims to assist children through the grief process when confronted with a painful loss or transition in their lives, such as the death of someone or a family separation. When something significant happens in a family, everyone is affected, including the children. Because of their young age and short life experiences, children often find it difficult to verbalise their feelings. This program is specifically designed for primary and high school students and is a peer support, harm-prevention program, offering a safe place to understand and share their feelings. Small groups of students meet with a trained adult facilitator once a week for 40 minutes during school hours and participate in activities including stories, talking, sharing, and craft.

Kitchen/Garden Projects
Now is the time when pruning commences, we were wondering if anyone has any raspberry canes that they would like to donate to the school. Classes are now preparing garden beds and shelters for raspberry canes.
If you don’t have raspberry canes but would like to help out in the Kitchen/Garden on Wednesdays, we would love to hear from you. Our Groundsman, Corey would also like some help in erecting shade cloth structures to protect our garden beds. Please contact the school office or send through an email to exeter.primary@education.tas.gov.au.
Classes are also working on another project and would like some old jeans and gumboots that you do not require anymore, these are not for the wearing of, so the condition is not important.
Thank you.

TPSSA Cross Country Carnival
The TPSSA Cross Country Carnival was held at Beaconsfield on Tuesday June 4 in beautiful conditions. We had 43 students participating on the day and all students represented the school with great pride and sportsmanship. Our students ran well and we had some outstanding results throughout the day.

Healthy Habits with Nurse Bec
ALL children can receive FREE dental care until age 18!
Did you know that baby tooth decay can affect adult teeth?
The enamel on baby teeth is softer and thinner than on adult teeth which makes them more prone to decay.
Decay can cause infection which can reach the adult teeth growing in the gum.
Sugary foods and drinks including milk, juice, cordial and packaged foods all contribute to tooth decay.
Bacteria, acid and saliva in the mouth also contribute to this.
It is very important for children to visit the dentist from as early as 1 year old and then annually for check-ups.
Brush twice a day, use fluoride-containing toothpaste and spit without rinsing for a healthy smile.
Cheers,
Bec Beeston
