From the Principal
The Department of Education (DoE) invites your further input into its review of intake areas for Tasmanian government primary and combined (district) schools, to apply from 2021 onwards.
This is the second round of community consultation to be held prior to the maps being published. DoE developed the Proposed Intake Area Maps based on feedback received from the community in the first consultation round.
Any adjustment to intake areas would only apply to new enrolments from 2021. Neither current students at our school, nor their siblings, would be affected. For information about how to provide your feedback, and to view the Proposed Intake Area Maps, see ‘School Intake Area Maps’ on the DoE website at the link below.
http://www.education.tas.gov.au/about-us/school-directory/school-intake-area-maps
You are invited to provide feedback by completing the public survey on the DoE website by Friday, 27 September 2019.
Please keep in mind that:
- Parents will still be able to apply to their school of choice, if capacity allows.
- The review will not change the way schools enrol students who live outside their intake area.
- The review will not affect students who are already enrolled in a school before 2021.
- If a child has a sibling already attending a school outside their intake area, then the child can enrol at the same school as their sibling.
Reading Hour
I was overwhelmed to experience my first ‘Reading Hour’ here at the school last Thursday evening. I was amazed at the number of families and community members in attendance. The excitement and buzz in the room was amazing. I would like to thank everyone who attended and extend my appreciation to staff and school members who worked behind the scenes to ensure the event was a success. I am already looking forward to next year.

Bedtime Stories
What a fantastic turn out we had this year for Bedtime Stories. Dad’s, Grandad’s and uncles came out from everywhere to share a book with their children. We enjoyed ‘Milo and cookies’ for supper and listened to guest readers sharing their favourite books. Every child was able to choose a special book to take home to share with their family. There was a huge range of books to read and enjoy, with lots of favourite titles for all ages. Reading is such an important skill to have and we hope everyone enjoys reading their take home book with all the family.

Arts
Arts Afternoon
It is nearly that time of the year again, the annual Afternoon of Arts at Exeter Primary. Every year we celebrate the wonderful range of Art programmes that are offered at Exeter. This year we will be celebrating on September 25, beginning at 1:45pm in the Performing Arts Centre. We will be showcasing Dance Fever, Esk Band, Singfest Choir, Piano, ReMADE Fashion and much more. Following the performances the 2019 Art Gallery will be opened and families invited to stroll through our Arts Trail into the Gallery. Families of all students performing and displaying artwork will be personally invited over the next few weeks and other families and friends are welcome to mark the date in their calendars. We look forward to celebrating the Arts at Exeter Primary with you soon.
Class in Focus
Prep Upson
Earlier in the year our classes planted some daffodil bulbs.
When we came back this term they had flowered and we have been enjoying their lovely colour in our playground.
We have enjoyed doing some science, visual art and literacy learning linked with the daffodils this term.
Prep Upson

We used pen and watercolour to illustrate the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We retold the story at assembly – here is a quick replay if you missed it on the day.

5-6 Alcock
Students 5-6 A enjoyed their time in the STEAM Room creating some marvellous constructions.
