From the Principal

It is hard to imagine that we are just over a week away from the end of Term 3! For me personally I don’t know where the past nine weeks have gone, it has been a term of establishing relationships with staff, students, parents and the community and seeing how Exeter Primary School operates.

The term has been a busy one with students engaged in a wide range of experiences beyond the classroom, providing them with learning opportunities for which they can connect back to their Literacy and Numeracy work. Some of the experiences have included:

  • Maths Relay
  • Gardening Groups
  • Maths Open Classroom Afternoon
  • Excursions – Hagley Farm School, Museum, Launceston College, Launceston Zoo, Tasmanian Police Department
  • Performances – Tarzan, Forensic Science, Cultural Dance Performance
  • High School Options Groups
  • Write a Book in a Day

I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful holiday period when it arrives. I look forward to seeing everyone next term.

Class Placement 2020

It is the time of year when we begin planning for the 2020 school year and part of this process is to consider student class placements. If you would like to have input into this process by providing me with information that may help in your child’s class placement for 2020, please contact me via email on, zachary.taylor@education.tas.gov.au or in writing via the school office. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss any aspect of this process.

To further assist us with planning for 2020 could you please let us know if you are not planning to be with us next year or if you are aware of any families that maybe intending to join us, we would like them to make contact with us as soon as possible.

If you have a child or know of any children in the area who were born in 2015, please be aware they are eligible for kindergarten in 2020. If you have not already done so, please collect an enrolment form from the school office and register your little one for kinder in 2020.

Kinder 2020

Review of National Funding Arrangements for Kindergartens – survey for parents:

An independent review (the Review) is being conducted into the national funding arrangements that support access by all children in Australia to 600 hours per year of quality early childhood education in the year before full-time school.

For Tasmania this is our Kindergarten year. Since 2008, the Australian Government’s UANP funding has supported an increase to 15 hours per week of Kindergarten in Tasmania, however the future of national funding is uncertain beyond 2020.

Tasmania has a long and proud history of providing free access to quality early learning and the Tasmanian Government has made substantial investments to support and expand this provision.

It is important that the success of Kindergarten in Tasmania is clearly understood in this national process and we encourage the Tasmanian education community, including parents, teachers, and leaders to participate in the review.

How you have your say:

  1. Complete the survey – online survey
  2. Write a public submission which closes at 11.59pm (Australian Eastern Standard Time) 6 October 2019. You can email your submission to UANPReview@NousGroup.com.au

Arts

Arts Afternoon

It is nearly that time of the year again, the annual Afternoon of Arts at Exeter Primary. Every year we celebrate the wonderful range of Art programmes that are offered at Exeter. This year we will be celebrating on September 25, beginning at 1:45pm in the Performing Arts Centre. We will be showcasing Dance Fever, Esk Band, Singfest Choir, Piano, ReMADE Fashion and much more. Following the performances the 2019 Art Gallery will be opened and families invited to stroll through our Arts Trail into the Gallery. Families of all students performing and displaying artwork will be personally invited over the next few weeks and other families and friends are welcome to mark the date in their calendars. We look forward to celebrating the Arts at Exeter Primary with you soon.

3/4 Gala Day

On Monday 16/9 our Grade 3/4’s played round robin matches in the sports of soccer, netball and basketball. This was an opportunity for Grade 6 students to take on leadership roles and for the Grade 3/4's to commit to trainings, develop team skills as well as learning rules and strategies in team games. Most importantly near the end of a term, to get outside and have fun. Well done to all the students in having a great day. With the support of Grade 8 students from EHS to umpire, time and organise games the day ran smoothly with excellent teamwork, skills and sportsmanship displayed. A special thanks to these Grade 6 students who ran trainings and coached/managed teams.
