From the Principal
Welcome back to the new school year, particularly to our Kinder and newly enrolled students. Wandering around classrooms yesterday it was great to see students back eager to learn and quickly settling back into classroom routines and school life.
I would like to welcome and introduce new staff to our school, we have 10 new faces on our staff team:
Mrs Ellen Smith (Instructional Coach), Mrs Peta Kerrison (Grade 1/2), Mrs Katrina Mahar (Prep), Miss Roxy Walls (Grade 1/2) ,Mr Adrian DeHaan (Internship Program), Mrs Marie Delamore (Music), Miss Grace Bannon (Grade 4/5), Lauren Brown (School Social Worker), Mr Richard McMinn (School Psychologist),Terri Walker (Speech Language Pathologist).
During the holiday period we had a number of trades people onsite; constructing, painting, laying carpet and fixing new blinds to improve our physical learning environment. Walking into classrooms which have been renovated so far, they feel fresh and inspiring for productive learning. As the year progresses we will continue our maintenance schedule throughout the school. The most significance renovation is to our basketball and netball courts. When these are completed, we will publish photos of the finished product, they already look amazing!
As a parent I am always keen and eager to know how my children’s day at school went. I found the following questions provides them with the best opportunity to think and respond about the things they experienced during the day.
- What was the best part of the day?
- What is the biggest difference between last year and this year?
- Did any of your classmates do anything funny today?
- What are you looking forward to tomorrow?
Finally communication between home and school is a key ingredient to ensure that students learning is being supported. If you have any questions, concerns or changes of circumstances please contact your child’s class teacher in the first instance.

Improvements to our school- Week One Arrangements
We are currently resealing our netball courts and landscaping our flagpole area. This will mean these areas are NOT accessible for the rest of this week. Parents who bring their children to school please enter via the front office the canteen area or over the oval and beside the PAC into the courtyard.
If you usually collect your child from the flagpole, please meet your child/ren outside on the grassed semi-circle area in front of the canteen entrance to our school.
Students who ride their bikes to school, will leave them on the grassed semi-circle area in front of the canteen entrance to our school.
These arrangements should be for this week only.
Novel Coronavirus Information for Parents
You may be aware of the novel coronavirus which was recently detected in Hubei Province, China. The Australian Government has advised that there is no need for alarm and the risk to the public is currently low. At this time, there are no confirmed cases in Tasmania.
Consistent with national advice, the Department recommends the following for our students:
- Those who have been in contact with any confirmed novel coronavirus case should not attend school or childcare and remain isolated in their homes for 14 days following exposure;
- Those who have recently visited Hubei Province in China should not attend school or childcare and remain isolated in their homes for 14 days after leaving Hubei Province; and
- Those who have departed mainland China and arrived in Australia on or after the 1st of February should not attend school or childcare and remain isolated in their homes for 14 days after leaving China.
- Those who arrived in Australia from mainland China (other than Hubei Province) before 1 February can attend school or childcare, as long as they are well.
If your child fits in to one of these categories, please let the school know. If you are unsure whether this applies to you, or have other questions, please call the Tasmanian Hotline on 1800 671 738.
And of course, any child who is unwell should also stay at home.
Below is a Fact Sheet from the Department of Education with more detailed advice about novel coronavirus and help resources. I strongly suggest that you read the Fact Sheet to familiarise yourself with this important information.
