A warm welcome back to everyone as we begin Term 2. It has been a smooth start with students transitioning into classroom routines seamlessly. The weather is on the turn as we are experiencing cool starts to the day, a reminder to pack a jumper or coat.
ANZAC Day
It was a pleasure to again attend the local ANZAC Day service at Exeter this year and hear messages and stories about what our service men and women endure during wartime to provide a democratic and safe place for us to live in. Each year we continue to build our knowledge and understanding of the value of determination, mateship, sacrifice, and courage and reflect on how these attributes can transfer into our own daily lives for the betterment of our community.
We thank Steph and Bailey who represented Exeter Primary School at the Exeter ANZAC Day Service.
Parent and Carer Communication
In the coming weeks families will notice a change in the way in which the school will communicate information regarding reminders about events and attendance as we move to the new Edsmart system.
EdSmart will be used for messaging and will be mandatory state-wide. EdSmart will be replacing SMS Global (and any other messaging products).
EdSmart is an Australian communication and workflow platform trusted by hundreds of schools to improve communication in the school community. EdSmart is a cloud-based software that enables schools to handle all communication with parents/guardians electronically. It will mainly be used to manage absences and other messaging for phase one of the project.
Here's how it will work for absentee notifications and responses:
You will be sent an email or SMS notification with a link to click which opens a secure web page version of an absentee response form. Complete the form and submit. These links can be accessed on your phone, tablet or computer at your convenience.
Privacy & Data Security
EdSmart is ISO/IEC 27001:2013 accredited, which refers specifically to the requirements for establishing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system within the context of an organisation.
All of the data you submit in the Forms is held in a secure database only accessible to authorised DECYP, school staff and EdSmart personnel.

Congratulations to all of the students who have reached the 50 Nights of Reading milestone and received a certificate and icetube voucher for the canteen.
We encourage all parents to support their children with reading at home habits. You can-
- read to your child- young and older students
- listen to your child read- older students could read you a couple of pages
- or ask some questions about what they are reading
Showing an interest in reading is a key motivator to supporting your child as they develop this crucial life skill. Let your child’s class teacher know if you need a replacement log book.
Reading on Country Photo Challenge
For the next 3 weeks, the Reading Leaders will be hosting a Reading on Country photo challenge. Prep to Grade 6 students are encouraged to participate and get into the habit of reading. Photos need to be emailed to Mrs Smith at ellen.smith@decyp.tas.gov.au by Monday, 28 May. Winners from each grade will be announced in the assembly on 29 May and will receive a book prize.
Why Respectful Relationships and Consent Education matters
Schools are where children learn to interact with others respectfully. Respectful relationships and consent education (RRCE) helps students understand that no one should be disrespected or abused. RRCE helps develop the skills children and young people need to have respectful relationships as they grow.
From a young age, children start to believe there are reasons and situations that make disrespectful behaviour acceptable. Even seemingly innocent remarks or actions can be misinterpreted as condoning or excusing disrespectful or violent behaviour.
The Australian Government’s Respect campaign aims to help families and communities to build respectful relationships.
The cycle of violence begins with disrespectful behaviour. While not all disrespect towards women leads to violence, all violence against women starts with disrespect.
What is Respectful Relationships and Consent Education?
RRCE focuses on developing the knowledge, skills and understanding students need to interact positively and respectfully in different social situations.
It promotes gender equity and challenges stereotypes to ensure all relationships are based on mutual respect, with the aim to reduce gender-based and family violence.
When teaching RRCE, students learn to:
- Build healthy friendships and relationships
- Communicate well with others
- Keep safe and recognise unsafe situations
- Solve problems without violence
- Respect themselves and others
- Understand and promote respect and gender equality
Nurse Nettie, in consultation with Mrs Simpson, will begin RRCE this term with our Prep – Grade 2 students. The Teaching and Learning package has been created by the Department for Children and Young People. All content is delivered in a developmentally appropriate way using suitable resources. Reconciliation Action Plan at Exeter Primary
A Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) is a formal commitment to reconciliation. It documents how your school or early learning service will strengthen relationships, respect and opportunities in the classroom, around the school/service and with the community.
RAP Working Groups are usually members of an educational community who are willing to drive the RAP development/implementation journey.
We are seeking parents/carers and wider family and community representatives to join us on our journey.
Please contact the office to find out more.
Orders can be brought to the school office, if ordering with cash by 15 May. Please place orders in an envelope with the student's name and class on the front. Orders can also be placed online using the Book Club Loop App.
