From the Principal
Dear families
Welcome to Term 2! I hope you have had a restful break and had the opportunity to enjoy some family time. Term 2 is an important term as we start off with our school Cross Country events in week 2 followed by NAPLAN in week 3 and then the Swimming and Water Safety Program in week 4. At the end of Term 2 you will receive your child’s major report for the year and have the opportunity for parent teacher conversations. I will be on leave for the first 2 weeks of term and Helen Peart will be acting Principal. I look forward to a great term and catching up with you all on my return.
ANZAC Day
I would like to acknowledge the students and families that supported Exeter Primary to commemorate ANZAC Day. Our choir did an amazing job at the Exeter Service and Community Centre, thank you Mrs Emms. A special thank you to Tara, Edward, Isabella, Rachelle and Claire who laid wreaths at the Exeter and Beaconsfield Cenotaphs on behalf of our school. The respect shown by our students is commendable and our families should be very proud of these wonderful young people.

NAPLAN 2018
The National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) will take place in the week beginning May 15. All students in Year 3 and 5 will participate. As always we take care to ensure that students are comfortable with the testing and teachers have been familiarising students with the testing format. I have included some extra information in this newsletter for you and if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher.
Premiers Reading Challenge
Don’t forget the Premiers Reading Challenge is on again this term and we are challenging all children to read 10 books in 10 weeks. Teachers will be supporting this in classrooms. By encouraging students to read we are aiming to develop a love of reading and highlight the importance of reading as a necessary life skill. This is a great opportunity to inspire your child to put down their electronic device and pick up a book. Please see the information in this newsletter about the Book Review Competition as part of Team Grant Birchall. Happy reading!
Exeter’s Got Talent
Congratulations to all the students who participated in Exeter’s Got Talent this year. It was a great show and a fabulous way to end the term. There was a great variety of acts and genuine talent to enjoy.

Hawthorn Looking After Me Program
Last Saturday evening a group of lucky Exeter Primary School Students participated in the Guard of Honour and Looking After Me Watermelon Challenge at the Hawthorn vs St Kilda Match. It was a fantastic event with fireworks and entertainment by Samantha Jade. Sienna, Danielle, PJ, Avery, Tom and Oscar waved flags in the guard of honour and won the Watermelon Challenge against East Launceston Primary School. A big thank you to the families of those children for supporting them to participate on the night.

Oral Health Program
This term our school is fortunate to be involved in a free Oral Health program in which all children from Prep to Grade 2 and Grade 6 are invited to participate in the Fissure Sealant and Fluoride Varnish Program to protect their teeth from tooth decay. The Oral Health specialist will visit our school this term and children will visit with their classes. The whole process will take only a few minutes. There is no cost to this program and it is a great way to project your child’s teeth. If your child is eligible to participate you will receive information and consent forms shortly. Oral Health will be holding an information session on Tuesday 22 May from 2.00 – 3.00 in the Parent Room so please come along and find out more about this program. I have included some information in this newsletter.

Parents & Friends Mother’s Day Stall
Parents & Friends MOTHER’S DAY STALL will be happening at school on Friday 11th May.
Each child will get the opportunity to come and purchase a gift for their mum, gran or carer.
The gifts are almost all hand-made items that are amazingly packaged. We also have beautiful flowers. Gifts range from 50c to $10 so there is something for everyone. If you wish your child to make a purchase then please send them along with some money. A small group of talented mums put a lot of their time into making these lovely gifts and the stall is our second largest fundraiser of the year for our school.
CAN YOU HELP AT A WORKING BEE?
We are holding a 'Working Bee' day to assemble and put together some of the craft items for the stall in the Parent room at the Prep/Kinder end of the school on Friday 4th May.
If you can spare anytime on Friday between 9am and 2.30pm to lend a helping hand we would love to see you - there is lots to do! Plenty of room for small children to play and there is a coffee machine and good company!
Also - if you have any donations of good as new or new unwanted gifts that would be suitable for the stall please leave them at reception. Candles, soaps, pens, plants etc are always popular.
We are also always happy to hear of anyone who wants to help man the stall and serve the kids on the day - it's a busy day!
Many thanks for your support, please email exeterprimaryparents.friends@gmail.com with any queries.

TPSSA Athletics Report 2018
On the last Friday of term Mrs Peart and Mrs Dunn accompanied the Exeter Team for this event. We took a squad of 43 athletes from grades 3-6 to St Leonards Athletic Centre in perfect weather to compete against representatives from Beaconsfield, Lilydale, South George Town, Port Dalrymple and Star or the Sea.
We were impressed with our team’s organisation, behaviour and determination to do their best and support one another. Exeter children were very competitive with most of our team returning with success. Of the 96 events Exeter was first in 45 and second in 33.
A special thankyou to Lisa Dentler and Alex Swain for officiating on Exeter’s behalf and all the other parents for supporting on the day.
There were so many outstanding performances with these students earning selection in the State Carnival to be held at St. Leonards on Friday 11th March.
