Welcome to Exeter Primary School

From the Principal

Hello and thank you for visiting our website,

As our vision states, Exeter Primary School is focused on providing a learning environment of the highest quality possible to create a community of life-long learners. We support children’s engagement with the learning experiences required to achieve continuous improvements in learning outcomes.

Our school is located in the rural community of Exeter in northern Tasmania. Our history began in 1909 when the first school in the area was established on land that was once an orchard. The main building in our current school was built in 1940, with extensions occurring regularly as the school population continued to grow. The Building the Education Revolution funding saw the construction of a school hall which will serve our school and community as a Performing Arts complex and as a meeting place.

Exeter is a K-6 school that has a strong focus on providing a learning environment that is supportive and inclusive of all. Learning is tailored to both support and extend all learners. In the emphasis we place on literacy, numeracy and positive behaviour, we support our students to be the best they can be.

Our school-wide expectations of ‘Be safe, Be your best, Care for the rest’ can be seen in our interactions around our school, and are supported by the Department of Education’s values of Aspiration, Respect, Courage and Growth. These expectations and values enable all members of our school community to work towards our purpose of helping our students:

  • to relate, participate and care for each other
  • to live ethically
  • to live full, healthy lives
  • to create purposeful futures and contribute to the development of a better world
  • to think, know and understand

Our school programs deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs from birth to four in the 'Launching into Learning' initiative. In Kindergarten our teaching and learning is based on the Belonging, Being and Becoming, Australian Early Years Framework and Prep to Year 6 within the Australian Curriculum Framework. As part of our learning program, students have regular access specialist learning in Music, Physical Education and LOTE. Our classes also access our computer lab, computers in their classrooms, a well-equipped library, an indoor solar-heated pool, and an outdoor classroom where our students learn about science concepts and health and wellbeing by planting, caring for, and cooking with fruit, vegetables and herbs. The Arts has a strong focus through the Esk Band program, Visual Arts and Dance and across the school we are building student skills in both Information Community Technology (ICT) and digital technologies through an interdisciplinary approach in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts Mathematics).
